Faith of Our Fathers (Congregational Arrangement (Keys of A, F, G))-UMH 710

The performance keeps the original key of G, and the score shown in the video is also in G.

This is a congregational arrangement, shaped to sit naturally in the moment when the whole church sings together. Because this is a hymn sung in remembrance of the faithful who went before us, the focus is not on ornament but on keeping the melody and the words clear. Accompanists will find that the congregation sings out most readily when the beat is held firm yet gentle, so that everyone can put their hearts into the words and sing with one voice.

Unlike the standard four-part hymnal setting, this is a dedicated piano score, well suited to services where a single piano leads the congregational singing.

The sheet music comes in three keys, A, F and G, so accompanists can simply choose what fits their setting. The G score heard in the recording is shown on screen, and all three keys are bundled together for those who print their music.

"Faith of Our Fathers" is found as No. 336 in the New Korean Hymnal and as No. 710 in The United Methodist Hymnal. The English text was written by Frederick William Faber in 1849, and the tune was composed by Henri Frederick Hemy. It honors the faithful of earlier generations who stood firm in dungeon, fire and sword without giving up their faith, and it is a song of resolve in which we promise to hold that same faith to the very end. Recalling those who clung to the gospel through trial, it has long been loved in services of confession and commitment.

We are cheering you on. May the music that comes from your hands lead your congregation into worship that gives all the glory to God.
