The Grace of God (Intermediate Arrangement (Key of C))-Jong Ho Park

This is a piano arrangement written for intermediate players.

It is in C major, 4/4, and runs 37 measures across four pages. Since this is an intermediate setting, I did not keep the harmony plain: there are twenty-two different chords in this one piece. In the opening I let the bass walk down through E/G# so the melody can move along on its own, and at the spot where A7 pulls into Dm7 you get the color of stepping briefly into another key and coming right back. There is also a chord borrowed from the parallel minor, Fm6/Ab. On that measure, holding the pedal a little longer makes it sound much prettier.

Even where the chord stays on C, I change its color with Caug and C6, so please do not rush the left hand. Let your ear catch the moment each chord turns before you move on. The later section circles through Em7 Am7 Dm7, loosens the knot for a moment on Gsus4, and closes on G. I left the dynamics and pedaling unmarked on purpose. Players at this level tend to read a piece far better in their own breathing. This one is in the key of C.

"The Grace of God" is a Korean worship song, written by Eun-a Cho with music by the late Sang-woo Shin. It became widely known in 2001 when it appeared on Jong Ho Park's tenth album, "Until All Nations See the Lord." The opening line was loved so much that the phrase "The One who made me" ended up serving as a second title for the song. Sang-woo Shin, who also left behind songs such as "I Bless You" and "My God, My King," passed away in 2017. To this day it remains one of the songs Korean churches turn to most often for a solo, a choir offering, or a moment of testimony.
