One and Only (The King's Affection OST) Lyn

The Kdrama "The King's Affection", being a period piece set during the Joseon dynasty (the characters are fictional though), is honestly not one I would have watched had it not been for "Bon Appetit, Your Majesty" (I never pass up shows about food) which led me to “Mr. Queen” which then led me to this real gem of a show. So, good Kdrama’s always start with what seems to be an unresolvable problem; and for the subsequent episodes, the viewer binge watches to see how that unresolvable problem is going to be resolved. In this Kdrama, the female lead ends up assuming her twin brother’s role as the Crown Prince, all whilst hiding her real identity. So when her first love reappears in adulthood and she finds that she has no choice but to suppress her feelings for him (after all, what’s more important than upholding the role of Crown Prince, heir to the throne, right?), that’s what this song "One and Only" is about.
You can see from the song’s F# Major key that it has as many sharps as it does suspended chords. It did occur to me to just transpose it to an easier key, but I decided not to be a lazy bum and maintained the original key... this meant mentally slapping my head to move past the multiple double takes in my mind, especially between the notes of E# (really, an F) and B natural. Added to that the difficulty for me in playing the piano every time I get back to a full set of house chores because the constant washing washes off whatever little friction I have off my fingertips. But I digress :) Eventually, I hope to work on other songs from this OST as they've got some pretty solid stuff there. Meantime, here is my cover of "One and Only" - hope you enjoy :)
Side note: I can understand why the director of Extraordinary Attorney Woo waited for Park Eun Bin a whole full year to finish filming this piece before she became available for his show. While I loved Attorney Woo, I much enjoyed Park Eun Bin's portrayal of the dignified ‘Crown Prince’, a role that meant she can only display subtle expressions, from restrained happiness to muted sadness and pain. That has to take a lot of skill, which Eun Bin does particularly well with just her eyes alone. One of the many reasons, along with the solid OST, why this show is on my must re-watch list.
