I... Aaron Lee

Background:
The composition's unique title is undoubtedly ambiguous, but purposefully so. It's ultimately up to the listener to find the meaning of the piece and finish the sentence.
The piece can invoke various emotions and experiences; however, when I composed this song, I imagined a child or adolescent at a loss for words after overhearing a muffled argument about his parents' divorce.
The opening depicts a playful setting, gradually overtaken by the modulation from C to a minor, representing "the good times, "what was," and "what could've been" along with innocence, robbed from the child too abruptly and untimely, as a new reality sifts into place.
The last couple measures toy with the notion of hidden hope in the midst of an uncertain future: the "what could've been," I suppose.
Am I that adolescent?

Score Notes:
I recommend a cantabile melodic line with a ringing tone accompanied by a quiet bass blurred by the pedal. Flucuations in dynamic add a cherry on top :) For example, crescendo when the scale tone rises and decresendo when it falls. Dynamic changes also make the modulation more interesting starting at measure 18.
Happy playing!
